We got in some Cauterizers for the deer hair crowd.

I guess there are other uses for them too.

What's the price point on those? Do they have replaceable tips and batteries?

I have been looking for one for a while to clean up the heads on flies...takes the stray fibers right out.

Yeah, I'm not sold on the burning hair aspect as you have to go in and clean up all the burnt/melted hair that stuck in there, and I wouldn't do it around a smoke detector for sure. It's great for cleaning up stray fibers though. Most of them have replacement tips available, the one I have runs on a single AA.

Do not use one of these just after applying head cement nor when using synthetic materials.
Trust me on that.

I would think these should work great for creating eye sockets on deer hair flies so that you can glue in eyes that end up flush with the surface. 8)

That is the exact use for cauterizers! They allow ya' to quickly and neatly "cut" or "burn" perfect eye sockets.

The guys in the south have been using them for about 20 years for just that purpose. I know 'cuz I bought my first cauterizer back in about '91... "First", 'cuz I got the one with non-replaceable batteries... a bad move. Spring for the extra 11 bucks for the replacable batteries, and you will not regret it!
