For Immediate Release:

May 26, 2010 (Bainbridge Island, WA) – Redington, the leading manufacturer of practical and approachable fly fishing tackle and apparel, is pleased to partner with Kirk Werner, author of the Olive the Little Woolly Bugger series of children’s books. The main goal of this collaboration is to introduce the sport of fly fishing to a new generation of kids through thoughtful stories that use fly fishing as a vehicle to entertain and teach.

Werner approached Redington with an idea that would benefit both parties once he learned of Redington’s Minnow outfit geared towards children ages six and older. The Minnow outfit includes a two-piece, eight foot, 5/6 weight graphite rod, a Crosswater reel with backing, weight-forward line, knotless leader, and a box with fun casting games and cut out targets. As of March 2010, anytime a Redington Minnow outfit is sold, a coupon to purchase the books at half price is included with the sale. Hundreds of Minnow outfits have shipped with coupons for the books. The end goal of this partnership is to increase the number of young anglers.

“Kids are the future of the fly fishing industry and developing creative methods to involve them in the sport is exactly why Redington is so excited about this partnership,” comments Jennifer Gish, Marketing Manager for Redington.

Olive tells tales from the perspective of a young fishing fly who happens to be a woolly bugger, one of the most recognizable fly fishing flies. Olive and her friends Randal the Royal Coachman, Sally the Yellow Sally, Stan the Stimulator, Mr. Muddler and others communicate to young readers that fishing is about more than just catching fish; it’s about having fun with friends and family, visiting new and beautiful places and experiencing nature. Olive the Little Woolly Bugger, Olive and The Big Stream and Olive Goes for a Wild Ride are the three books in the series published by Johnson Books (a Big Earth Publishing company) of Boulder, CO.

“My goal was to weave different kinds of information about fly fishing — from specific uses for flies to fly casting techniques — into stories with values, morals and life lessons about perseverance and respect,” says Kirk Werner. “Joining forces with Redington in the push to involve young people in the sport of fly fishing is a perfect match for the Olive the Little Wooly Bugger series.”
