View Full Version : Striper fly contest!

I have an idea for some friendly competition. 10 people (Or how ever many we can get in a week or so) will each tie ONE striper fly. Flies do not have to be original, any fly that is used to catch stripers. Subsurface or topwater. The first 10 to post here are in, and will have 1 week once the 10 are in. I can set up another post, where each person will post a few pictures of their fly. (Maybe a few angles, and one wet?) I'll put up a poll where everyone can vote, and a week or two later we will have a winner!
If everyone wants, we can mail each of our flies to the winner. (Or be upset that we lost and mail a heavily used shad fly.)

A few thoughts on judging criteria:
1) Looks/Flair
2) Action?
3) Tying difficulty
etc. (Feel free to add to this, but I have a feeling that the flies will be judged mainly on looks.)

Nobody has to name flies yet, unless they feel like it.

This is open to anyone, and let me know how we can make this work!

Who's in? FULL

1 ) Gene Goss

2 ) Mark

3 ) Mrs. Finsallaround

4 ) Charlie Gonzales

5 ) Flyfish707

6 ) JGoding

7 ) GreggH

8 ) SteveP

9 ) NVswitch

10 ) Ted1

I am last, I claim this spot in the polls also.

If this happens, it's gonna get done in 2-3 weeks, so don't post if you can't do it! Or I may not come in 10th! Hmm.. come to think of it, if nobody wants in, I may come in 1st!

Cool! I don't know about looks vs fly success. I would guess a difficult to tie gaudy fly would get more votes, but a chart. clouser is probably more proven. I say, tie something that looks good, and is not easy to tie, but I only get one vote....

But, we DO have to tie them ourselves, right?

What the hell, need to start tying for the season anyway. I'm in. Nice tube fly airhead Charlie. I was going to ask what inspired the purple but looking at the pic again I guess it should be fairly obvious.

Almost there! One more spot to go, time to start naming and tying our flies.
Let's try to get this done within the next week or so, everyone let me know when they are done tying, and I can put up another post with a poll.

Yep, you can fill the last spot. Let's get our ties flied by the end of the week, and I can put up a new post with a poll Monday. Let the contest begin!
I've tied a few prototypes, but would be somewhat embarassed to show them in public, working on it!

Tie flied... or fly tied.... pictures taken, have to say I had planned on tying a dozen or so and pick the best of the bunch, after I finished the first one I was so happy with it I said to heck with it and started taking pictures. I'm ready and excited to see what everyone else has.
