5/6 A. Report

Went out last night after work and got skunked again. You know that they are not here in numbers if Bruce and I aren't getting any. I saw a lot of people trying (3 boats and about 15 anglers banking or wading) but no one catching. I think the Bee's fishing report brought a lot of people out. The shad are in the Sacramento river and the higher flows should bring them into the American. The water is still cold so it is early in the run. According to Peter Moyle the peak of the run occurs when water temps are (59-68 degrees) so we need some warm weather (air temps above 90) to bring the water temps up. If the water temperature to go up few degrees, it will be on. Next week should be better in the catching department.

Here's why the shad ain't coming into the American, Water Temp @ Freeport on the Sac - 60.2; @ Watt on the AR - 53.4
Need a heat wave!!!!
Pretty typical for the shad run on the AR to lag the Sac by a few weeks until the water warms a bit.

This is starting to sound like waiting for a hex or green drake hatch. Wait till next week, shoulda been here last night, it was great down/up stream from where you were. Nope they were hitting pinkies not orangies. Did I miss anything?

Bridge test results will be posted this evening, but I'm not taking my rod, just my little girl to check things out. At 5200cfs I know I couldn't get out to where I want to go if they're there anyways.

I stood on the foot bridge at Sunrise yesterday for about a half hour and saw nothing. I hope you do.

You can only see about 4', lots of junk in the water too.

Didn't see anything but suckers unfortunately. Water was looking good though.
