Finally the wind has laid down. Chilly in the morning but warms up real fast. A little chop on the water leaving from Muertos Bay heading to the island. This is where the bait is located. Met the bait boys off the south end of the island and loaded up. Lots of bait.
Saw some cruisers from Los Brilles come up from the south for bait. Must not have any bait in the area. The bait right now is big.

Started out looking for a skippie or two to warm up on. No skippies. But there were a few dorado and some wahoo in the area.. No hook ups on either species. Went to the island to get more bait from the boys and stayed around for a while catching lady fish, pargo and triggers. Had some jacks but the guys were tooooooooo slow in the cast/presentation. Ya can't air the line for 40 seconds. It's roll cast, pick up shoot line backwards and then present. After catching some yellow tail pargo's we decide to make the run to the La Playa for some Toro and Pez Gallo. A few lady fish and some big splashes made by a few Toro's.
Right at the point of the beach, just a little south of the lighthouse, I saw this HUGE boil on the surface coming to the boat and MACH speed. MUCHO TORO'S. This was a big school, may be 150+ and ranged from medium to Huge. A few grande Pez Gallo's in the mix.
I went into my cheerleading frenzy, standing on the ice chest and the captains seat. CAST, CAST, CAST. Get you line in the water, stop the false cast. WAIT, let the line sink a little. STRIP, fast - FISH ON!!!!!! The reel scream was sweet music to my ears and all I heard was DAMN, he's going deep into my backing - then POP! The backing had crisscrossed and jammed. No Jack.
Quick, give me your rod and hand strip the line on to the deck. I was untangling the overwrap on the reel. Finally fixed it and told the guy grab another fly as I was winding in 200' of backing and fly line. Got the leader, tied the fly on and the fish had come back to the same area. Then I heard FISH ON!!! Great, here's your rod, slap the fly on the water, A DOUBLE - WHOA.

About 20 minutes later a pair of jacks to the boat 15lbs and 18lbs and they weren't even the big ones. Search for the school but it wasn't hard to find them. The frigets were hovering over them. Two more jacks to the boat.

That was the end of a good day for two fishermen who've never fished here before.
Comment: I can't believe they fight and pull harder than a 50lb chinook

Welcome to my house

I'm with the other two guys in the morning. Conditions are suppose to be the same and then on Wednesday, Thursday, I'm fishing by myself

I have GoPro video and lot's of digital shots. Once I get enough footage, I'll put together a short video and post it on to my vimeo.com account

Time for some taco's at Rancho Viejo

Must have been an absolute hoot. I'm not sure what's more fun, my first time, or the other guy's. I think it's watching the other guy--double hoot.

WOW!!!! Sure wish I was down there. If I wasn't going Bass fishing with KD this week, I'd be tempted to jump on a flight....
