Took a couple of days off and made a familiar mistake. It's too dang early to fish the streams. Carson below Hangmans Bridge was too off color to fish. I got one "flash" and another angler reported one missed take. Got the heck out of there and arrived at the Lil T near dark. Camped in the free campground near the mouth and settled in for the night. It started raining around 9pm and never let up. The wind was fierce to say the least. I awoke to about 4" of fresh snow, freezing temperatures and a strong wind. Needless to say, I had the entire meadow section to myself. Not another fly guy to be seen. The fishing was lousy. Nothing, nada, zippo. Took a few pretty pictures of some secret holes and riffle though.

I thought there would be more snow in the valley.

The E. Carson below Hangman's is usually pretty chocolaty from April until about the end of June. But with the almost normal snowpack this year, I would guess that the high runoff might hold-out until sometime in July....

...in my experience.

I hate when I make plans like that and things don't turn out the way you planned. Especially when you make them way in advance and you get all excited days prior to your trip then it just all falls apart. Sorry things did not work out. I saw a fly fishing TV show a while back where they went to the little Truckee and the caught some really nice fish from under that large overhang rock in your picture. Hope you get another chance to get out soon.

Rooster, sorry they weren't there for ya. I got blanked a couple days ago too, forgot a 6x leader. The fish pushed my offering out of the way to eat.
With all the fishermen out, it will soon be 7x.
My buddy Kevin had both the fly/leader, so..

Just remember the easiest water to reach, gets the most pressure! (Secret water???? With pictures?)
There are times you can catch some fish in the cave hole, but they are forced out/down often, due to drive-by guys.
All the easy to access waters get pounded, do yourself a favor and walk a little more, this is true on both Big and Little T.
Really large fish out and about, but they are spread out, and can be almost anywhere. Think like a fish, then, think like a fisherman.
For what it's worth to anyone out there, locals/visitors fish a little further apart on pools and such. A little etiquette is called for on small high pressure year-round waters like this. We'd like everybody, (so to speak) to have a quiet mtn experience.
We just leap frog around, rest 'em, then come back. On "bad weather" days, you have it all to yourself (I saw your truck).
They still gotta eat, no noses, fish deeper. Slack water is easier on them current-wise, and food collects there.
This water produces best with very light leaders, and v-e-r-y small flies. 6x and 22-26 nymphs. Water temp still low 42 F.+/-.
Not a lot of bug activity yet. It's to your advantage to be very sneaky too, these fish see a ton of nonsneaky types.
Small windows of sz 22 Little western BWO dries, on a sunny/hazy day. Very sweet....
A heads up... we'd appreciate fishermen avoiding fishing/wading the very upper end of 610 hole for a while, as the bows are on the reds now. Worth stopping to watch though, nature at it's best, wild fish doing the wild thing. They aren't really eating/biting, and need their energy for other stuff. Since we have some invasive growth now, this is the best/favorite perfect riffle for them. If we give them a little space, the fishery will repay the favor.
I don't normally give reports on this water due to pressure, but I thought some might "need to know".
Be aware the warden is everywhere, make sure you are barbless, and currently lic. Don't have to display it, but you'd better have it!
Boca lake is just about up to the campground. Maybe bring a floaty to fish the lake if the stream doesn't "produce".
The only place it's "normal" for a lineup, is the Boca lake inlet, (for a fishy good reason). I fish this water a lot, it's a great piece of water, and it hurts to hear it called "lousy". These fish are just pressured into raising the bar on our performance.
Give me a shout if you (or anyone) are coming up, might be able to help prevent a total shutout (no promises). Conditions change rapidly this time of year. We got six more inches of heavy snow last storm. It is sunny today, and the snow is melting fast, but bring a coat.
I keep trying to remember, the fish need the water. (Just heard Squaw valley had 500 +" of snow this year.)
We've started calling this month "Awesome April". And yes, the big T is fishing well too, for this time of year.
Oh, and all the piggies we've been posting, are still in there!
Enjoy! Happy Fishmas Eve!

Is the current warden still "Darth VADA"? That guy is all business!

Tstalker, Negative, new guy named Adam. Ruthlessly efficient and highly motivated.
Sneaky too. I recommend carrying your own cotton ball (for barbs). Seriously.
