Found this in the sacbee,
State officials Wednesday might vote to allow salmon fishing on the American River and other Central Valley waterways for the first time in three years.
Fishing for the fall-run Chinook salmon has been banned since 2007 on Central Valley rivers due to a plunge in the population. But the ban apparently helped restore the species enough to allow limited fishing to resume this year.
Spokesman Harry Morse said the Department of Fish and Game proposes to open Central Valley rivers to salmon fishing for only about one month, as follows:
• American River, downstream from Ancil Hoffman Park: Oct. 30 to Nov. 28.
• Feather River, downstream from Thermalito Afterbay Outlet: July 31 to Aug. 29.
• Upper Sacramento, from Deschutes Road Bridge to Highway 113 Bridge: Oct. 2 to Oct. 24.
• Lower Sacramento, from Highway 113 Bridge to Carquinez Bridge: Sept. 4 to Oct. 3.
An angler would be allowed to keep only two salmon at a time from any of the catch zones.
The state Fish and Game Commission will vote on the issue at a special meeting Wednesday, and it may modify the proposal. The meeting by teleconference starts at 9:30 a.m. The public may listen and participate at 1416 9th St., Room 1320, in Sacramento.
Morse said the limited seasons are intended to restrict the inland salmon catch to no more than 8,200 fish, a number set by the Pacific Fishery Management Council at its meeting last week in Portland. At that meeting, the council reopened ocean commercial salmon fishing for the first time in three years, though also for tightly limited periods.
