Got baby duties today while the wife is out shopping. After many hours watching the cartoon network, I figured I'd take the little guy out to the local pond for some fun. Loaded up the rods and misc. gear and off we go.

Here's the little guy 'two-handing' the 3wt. He tried to catch the ducks but he couldn't get a delicate enough presentation.

After a few tries, he got used to flinging the long stick without too many tangles or snagging the grass behind him. I thought that would be the end of it but now he actually wanted to catch some fish.

"What if I 'cast' the rod for you and you can reel in the fish?"....."Sure dad, that would be cool".

First cast, fish on. Here's the little guy in action:

Fish to hand:

And another one:

Caught a bunch of gills and he had a blast reeling them in. We also 'caught' a few sticks and weeds. He had fun reeling those in too.

Sharing a couple of cold ones after a 'hard' day of fishing.

Looks like I got me a new ticket out of the house. Looking forward to a few more trips.

Wow!!! Does that bring back some good memories. I used to take my son to the DFG pond and a couple of others in Elk grove for Sunnies and an occasional Black Bass. Of course, my son wasn't as impressed with the fishing as he was with Crawdads/Frogs/Turtles, etc. Always had a great time.

Good on you Dad. The photos tell it all.... :D

Excellent post mar.

All of us who've been there are re-living it right now.

That's some good stuff.

Nice looking fish, and great form with the two handed action.

Looks like fun! I've got my 10 month old on Fridays and he loves it when I load him up in the Kelty Kids back pack and take him out fishing. Gets me out of the house too, gotta love it!

Great post! I especially like that next to the last picture -- very nice smile. Nice sized gills too, good for you! :)

Hey Mar,
That's awesome! I want to do the same thing with my son when he's old enough. For now, I've just taken him fishing in the backpack.

Great post!!!
Mike

What everyone else said, with an extra thanks for giving the urge for other Dads or Moms to take their little ones out. Truely some quality special time you can't get any other way.

Many thanks for all the comments. Hanging out with the kids is always a treat. This last trip with the little one was his first where he actually caught some fish and he truly had a blast. He didn't want to go home yet :-)
