I think this is called a Lake Trout or Char or Mackinaw.

I believe they are up shallow in the cold water of winter and early spring.

Summer they go very deep.....deeper than Kokanee.

I have always heard they are good eating because of the cold depths they live in.

It looks cold...........

This time of year it is possible to add another fish specie to your list, and a Macky is one of the tastiest fish there is. (personal opinion)
Donner is a put and take lake most of the year, but not now.
Try a med/lrg white streamer. Just white palmered rabbit will do, but Burk's gotta sick version too. Sinking line is good.
I use a Pyramid set up sometimes (8wt, 300 gr line). I have even used a ladder, (No fighting the lineup here!).
Less than a month, and they will repair to the deep. Several folks believe the next state record for Mackies, may occur at Donner. Wouldn't that be great!
Night fishing is OK in Nevada Co. and midnight-two in the morning is a fun change of pace, and a good time for these guys.
Have fun now!
