Just got back from a buddy's bachelor party in New Orleans. I squoze a day of fishing in between all the partying.

I had a blast fishing out on the marsh. I was sight fishing for red fish and black drum with an 8 weight in only a few feet of water. I caught several red fish in the 8-12 lb. range and then capped the day off by landing a 38 lb. black drum. She was a true swamp donkey!

I can't say enough about my guide Captain Greg Dini. He is a really fun guy to fish with. He's got a beautiful skiff and knows how to put you on the fish. Here is the link to his webpage: http://www.flywaterexpeditions.com/ I highly recommend him and his partners.

If you are ever down in New Orleans, I would suggest getting out to fish the surrounding saltwater marshes. You only live once right?

Great report. The LA marsh is really an awesome fishery. I have been down there three times now and am going down again next winter for two weeks to show my wife around the area for potential winter retirement area.

Plan to fish with Capt. Greg cause I really want to fish out of his new Vantage. That is one awesome looking boat.

By the way that is a nice blackie. I love them things on a fly. They are just big bad azz toads.8)

Hope this oil spill doesn't ruin the ecosystem and your retirement area... :(

I still can't believe that it was allowed to get this bad.

Yes we are watching it very closely to see what ultimately happens as far as impacts. Pretty sad. We are also looking at SW Florida (just got back from there tarpon fishing)l as well but really am leaning towards the marsh....just something special about that area.
