These are some fish we have caught up here on the Truckee River this week. Some caught by clients, some by myself, and also my friend Keith. When the weather is warm the fishing is great for this early in the year. On overcast days we have a ton of BWOs coming off. I haven’t seen any March Browns yet, but that should happen anytime this month, maybe if the weather stays stable for a bit. We have Skwalas on warmer afternoons at about two o’clock, and you can see some fish coming up for them. Over all nymphing is your best bet now with Stones, and Mayfly patterns. I’ve been streamer fishing a bit but have only got some bumps. If the water warms a little more they should be happy to start chasing them down. April is a great month on the Truckee so I would advise folks to get up here before the run off sometime in May as there is a lot of snow this year in the high country.
