Got my first top water bass of the season (and a dozen of so of his siblings) last night on a farm pond near Merced with an Umpqua Swimming Frog. Mostly 14-18" range.
Christened my new bass rig, 8'6" 8 wt Shakespeare Wonderod (1965 model), South Bend Oren-o-matic fly reel and Rio Outbound Short. Unfortunately ran out of camera battery power so no pics yet of my Retro Bassamatic outfit.
Top water action did not start until almost dark. Clousers were the ticket all afternoon on a Outbound Short intermediate line. Sometimes they picked it up on the drop.
Gotta give the bass a few days off for Spey-o-rama, but then......
