Got my first couple topwater bass of the season last week. I love this time of year. I used some new bass flies made of Foam and Poly rope to get these guys lipped. I noticed these flies were alot easier to cast than a traditional deer-hair bass bug.
For more info about fishing these new flies visit Idylwilde.com or Infoaboutbassin.blogspot.com. Infoaboutbassin is a blog devoted to the flyrod bass anglers. Super informative.

Kudos on the Bass. I'm envious.... I gotta say that those bugs're probably the ugliest I've set eyes on.... :unibrow: Still envious, tho.

throw a couple of the foamies in your box. You will be surprised.
Darrin,
Way to go. Nice bass on some big ugly flies. We need to get together for some top water bass fishing. I'll talk to you soon.

MY favorite time of the year, and it is even early for top water action. I got my first bass on top over 3 weeks ago, and just this last Saturday I caught over 75% of my fish on top including bass and gills. Next week should be off the hook.

That upper pond can really produce in the summer. When the temps climb into the 90*s take out your tube and fish around the island at night. It can be unreal at times.
