Bill, You're right on about where the stripers like to spawn on the Sac. They spawn on the Feather and I'm sure the American too. Actually, they'll spawn wherever they can find the right water temperature and it must be moving too.

For the last two weeks we've been picking up males on both rivers that are already spilling milt.

This morning I was on the water about 6:30 and as I approached one of the big sandbars in the area I noticed three shapes holding in one of the shallow currant seams. As I got closer they moved slightly but still continued to hold. Salmon! These are the first I've seen on the Feather this year :)

I've seen stripers cruising the flats too but they never stop and hold like salmon do.

When there was a salmon season, we'd start fishing for them usually around April/May up in the lowflow. Hopefully this will be a sign of good things to come.

The water is staying very clear in the Feather with visibility of 5'-6'. Because of this we've been going to more realistic colored flies with big eyes. I've actually been using some of my sardina patterns from Baja and the stripers seem to really go for them too.
