We usually fish Hat the first week in June, but after reading a little, it seems that the Salmon Fly hatch is tapering off then. We usually have good luck when we go, but there aren't a ton of big 'uns around, just enough to keep the fishies heads up. Is the hatch really better in May? Or is it a kinda light hatch the whole time?

When we go in June, there has been an incredible caddis hatch going on.

Thanks again!!

Hat Creek is one of my favorite spots. Your best bet to hit it would be in may, or in late sept - oct, but that doesnt mean the fishing isnt any good between then. Early morning or late afternoon is best, midday pitch streamers in deep holes. You will catch the tail end of the salmon fry hatch on Hat in may, but the Pit would be your best bet if your going to chase that hatch. I can't wait tell the Hat opens up, there is nothing like sight fishing for big bows and getting them to take a dry fly. Good luck.
