8 year old Fly Fishing phenom Miguel Cory was fishing for stripers with his dad on the Feather River above Verona on Sunday morning. He has been fishing for 6 years and F.F. for the last 3. He is a student of Jeff Putnam's and can actually cast a 9 wt. rod. He and his dad were done for the day and on their way back to the ramp when Miguel insisted on making one more stop at a pool below a run that he thought looked "fishy."
He was throwing a new Rio OutBound Short Intermediate line with a brown and white "Charlie's Airhead" on a 9wt with a new Galvan Rush reel. On the third cast, he got a nice grab and ended up landing a very nice 4# small mouth. Miguel has caught Tuna, Ladyfish, Roosterfish, Pargo in the salt and has landed Steelhead, Rainbows, Browns, Shad, Stripers, LMB and Pikeminnows in freswater all on fly rods.
Not bad for a 2nd grader!
