Hit some new water with Ed and Charlie on Sunday. Probably some of the bassiest looking water I have seen in awhile. Had a great time with good friends. Charlie out fished Ed and myself hands down, but both Ed and I were able to get into some nice bass ourselves. Charlie even got a crappie on top water. From the looks of the bellies on some of the fish it appears as they are alreay in the spawning mode. All fish were caught on top water deer hair bugs.
Here are a couple of my pictures.

Nope I did not tie that bug, and no you can't come play with us. You are too deep into the steelhead for my liking. Sorry buddy. But those fish have changed you. :D

That was a great day. I'd go ahead and say topwater season has arrived. \\:D/
While I came in last with only 2 landed, I dropped 4 or 5 others, on of which pulled hard enough to burrow into the weeds. Really would've liked to have seen that one. I lost my hook file a while back and have been forgetting to replace it. Guess I'll do that today.
Here's a long shot of Charlie, I was too slow to catch his bent rod before the SDL happened. This was an awesome hookup. Notice the dark spot to the right side of Charlie's 'toon, he managed to sidearm a cast all the way up under there. We were in the process of telling him that cast deserved to get bit when the take down happened up under there. Even though he didn't land it it was a perfect piece of classic Largemouth Bass fly fishing.
Never be afraid to toss that fly wherever you have to, you just never know.

And here's my obligatory Bass shot. Same fish, you can see we were all using similar flies, just different colors.

Due to the algae forming up, it looks like I'll be using KD's Mat Rat here this summer.
Thanks for getting us on that club Charlie, it's well worth whatever you paid to join.

Wow, that looks like a blast! Topwater in March is fantastic. Any idea what the water temperature was near the surface?

Water temps were probly mid 60's, warm enough for one of these guys to be hanging out....

Both the 'gill and crappie takes were much more explosive than most of the bass. The bass were either sipping off the surface, or taking it while the bug was subsurface on the strip. At one point I had gotten out of the 'toon and was walkin the shoreline, I spotted a very fishy lookin stump, threw next to it and about a 4lb bass slowly rose and barely sipped my bug in. I was so excited about what I was seeing that I didnt realize she actualy had my popper in her mouth.
Thanks for the shot Ed! Thats why I was happy to have a 9wt, it was a bit over gunned for most of the fish, but was great for horsen them out the weeds.
