Found this on Blanton's BB. It's from an article by the Hanford Sentinel (www.hanfordsentinel.com).

In order to read this, you may need to copy/paste into your browser. This is probably not an active link as the date of the article is 8/25/09.

This article describes a sale of rights to surface water by a westside grower (Sandridge Partners of San Jose) for $77 million. The Kings County grower will pull out a large portion of it's almond orchards to accommodate the reduced surface water need and irrigate with ground water. :-s The kicker is that the water will be transfered to a developer in the Antelope Valley  (....guess I should've held on to the property I had out there in the '70s #-o ).

Now relate the significance/timing of this event to the position of Senators Feinstein and Boxer to protect agricultural jobs in the San Joaquin Valley. Does this protect agricultural jobs??? This sale took place before the Resnicks made their request for assistance. :-k Also, this may be the potential real motive behind the Resnicks pressuring for guaranteed water deliveries.... Remember, The Resnicks have an ownership interest in the Kern County aquifer which is closer to Antelope Valley and proposed Tejon Ranch developments.... Water is becoming more valuable as commodity than for producing crops.
