Hi All,
Trying to find a fly box that would hold a a large number of Hair Bugs / Divers.
Would like to hear from the Bass chasers on the types of boxes they use.

Thank You

Mikel

For the Delta during the topwater season, for a typical 3 - 4 hour session, I only carry one inexpensive 8" x 4 3/8" 6-compartment plastic box loaded with 4 or so deer hair divers in 2 color combinations and a couple of red/white deer hair Tap's Bugs. That's it.

If it's for an all-day session, I'll load that 6-compartment box with just deer hair divers and take a separate box for the Tap's Bugs. Since all my divers have weedguards, I much prefer a compartment box to keep them from getting tweaked. Since none of my Tap's Bugs have weedguards, I keep them in one of these for an all-day session:

I like this box because it's big enough to not worry about pressing down on the deer hair or tweaking the tail. Unfortunately, I don't think Orvis sells this saltwater-sized version anymore.

Bottom-line, though, I just don't feel a need to carry a large assortment or number of deer hair bass bugs with me on the water and prefer to keep it fairly simple.

Simplicity at its best. After reading your post, I actually considered it for a moment until I concluded the tails on my divers would get all different kinds of sets in them . . . and after all that time to get 'em perfect at the vise . . . . I think I'll stick to the 6-compartment plastic box.

Plano # 3705 is ideal for Hair Bugs . I have a pile of # 3450 and # 3449 boxes that hold all my stuff (last count was over 40 FULL ones .....) .

Cliff has added a memory-coil system into the Bugger Beast Jr fly box. Designed for
stinger-hook flies - like the Intruder; which is what it is called. The head of the fly is placed under the coil. Have only seen pictures of this. The $55.00 price tag might scare off
more than a few folks./

I've shifted to Plano too, even for bonefish flies. I have a beast jr. but the foam is too thin to hold large saltwater hooks. It's fine for wire, but that defeats the advertised purpose.

I use Plano tackle boxes for my bass flies.

For years I carried all my bass bugs in a plastic band aid container.

I also had a bunch of trout flies in a sucrets tin, and small trout flies in a Bayer aspirin tin.

Choices have sure gotten better.

Thank You All for the Input.
Guess I will stay with the Plano boxes but perhaps BIGGER??:-k
Maybe I'll just have to cut down on the number of flies.:crybaby:

Lee that hat's been gone for years. Now it's just a hat shaped mass of entangled bass bugs.

And that aint a bad thing.

If I recall correctly, Lee's hat is where I saw one of Mikes (hairstacker) Tap's Bug attached.....

It is a great box and has enough overhead room not to crush hair.
