This is a big change in the winter menu. Small sz18, but meatier than Midges! Fished mid-morning on the surface, and sub-surface mid-afternoon. No new snow, so approach is a lot easier. No shore ice now, and thick breakable crust or pack works without snowshoes. Upper canyon is spring creek style time.
10-12ft 6x leader, stealthy stalk, good drifts too. Fish slowly, thoroughly, but be ready as the grabs are very quick.
They may be in small water sunning themselves when the sun comes out. Me too....
Getting some grabs on lrg black skwall nymphs. BWO's Baetis, March browns are a good call.
Of course Midges too, Zebra sz 22. Griffiths Gnat.
Lower canyon is accessible with a snow walk, very beautiful and no one around.
So many midges that the American Dippers are feeding in the snow banks.
Do not park under the Hirschdale overpass, you will get a ticket. Glennshire is open.
