One of our friends was just by the shop and reported hooking a fresh-run adult Steelhead approximately 8 pounds yesterday in the upper river.

He was using a Spey rod with a Skagit head and 10 feet of T11 tip and a black/purple leech.

Fish made 3 big jumps downstream and then came off.

He said it was very exciting.....

PS: I can tell you that for many years February has been one of the best month for winter-runs on the A.

I got there when he was leaving. Unfortunately, someone had taken over his spot. I spey fish further down but had no takers. Early in the day hooked a #4 further up the river with an indi and a nymph. It's a tough year but I'm still willing to put some hours.
