What kind of action does this rod have does it bend deep into the cork with a skagit 540?

It loads fine with the 500 rio skagit flight so i'd imagine with 540 it'd load pretty easily

Gary Anderson's Explorer series Spey rods are all a great value and they are very popular.

That is a great all around size too.

Gary's rods all come with a rod case, lifetime warranty and one of his custom fitted lines.

For $450.00 all you need is a reel and backing.

On our online Spey store we also recommend an Airflo Compact Skagit 540 or a new Rio Skagit flight 550.

You can buy one of these great rods directly from Gary Anderson, or Deschutes Angler or from us here at Kiene's Fly Shop.

This rod will handle a variety of grain weights and lines especially for skagit casting. It will perform best from 500-540 grains. Some good options would be Airflo Compact Skagit 510, 540, Rio Skagit Flight 500, 525, 550. It all depends on the type of load you like in a rod. The heavy skagits are certainly going to slow this rod down a bit but also make casting heavy tips and big flies a little easier. If you think you might be casting smaller flies and lighter tips, i.e. type 3, etc... then I would keep it around 500 grains. Just my 2 cents.
