Had a last minute cancellation and invited Jason Hartwick to come up to the Yuba with me. Despite the huge spike in Deer Creek the river was still very fishable. Saw a few PMD's, BWO's, and Skwalla's. Oh and a couple fish, too.

Here's Jason with a fresh half pounder

This is one of the most beautiful fish I've seen come from the Yuba

If you want to get into the Spey game you should definately hook up with Jason(http://www.steelheadonthespey.com)

Hey Charlie...being as this was my first fish ever on a dry fly I think it was definitely prettier...seems to me you forgot the plug for the boat that day.:D:eek::eek:

Too bad you're booked tomorrow...my buddy and I are gonna make the drive (UGH) anyway and bank it. Hope to see you! Couldn't resist pulling your chain...

Is it me or does it look like both of those fish hit bare hooks? What sort of flies are those anyway?

BTW, I think I caught that fish last year:

We dont need no stinkin beads!

Eds right on the money with that one.

Shig , maybe they're related...and by the way it helps when you have small hands(just kiddin).

Mike its a good thing that floatant bottles are the same size! So I never bought more plugs, just more floatant!;)I later realized when I pull out in shallow water that if the plugs arent tightened all the way they pop out. At one point I had three plugs under my rear floor rollin around.

Pretty sneaky sis! Were these fish caught on the swing? In the chromer fish pic there looked to be a shot pinched above the hook so I was confused as to how the tube came down to the hook. Quick release tube? Or tube-crawler? :P

Charlie,

Thanks for rowing and a good day on the water. We saw a goo amount of bugs and a decent number of skwalas but the fish didnt seem to be keying on them yet.

All fish were taken on the swing, on Ed Ward's porkrind. Basically a rabbit strip threaded through the line with a stinger hook and split shot to give it a little weight. This is a great time of year to swing the yuba as the trout are aggressive and there are also some steelhead around.

The next month or two should be great out there especially as the skwalas come out in full force. Dont forget swinging streamers and alevins too. Charlie is on top of it and there is no better time to get out there and learn the streamer or dry fly fishery on the yuba with him. Not to mention, he makes a killer lunch!

I sure do miss swinging streamers on the Yuba , Green Zonkers with sink tip , was our favorite . I need to hit some big rivers . The Green is only 3-4 hours away but i have yet to make it there . :(
