Aloha, I have used about all the multi tools that are out there. My favorite was an original leatherman. I liked it because it had the file to sharpen hooks with. I lost it with my last client, I don't know where or how, but it is gone. I shopped around and got a new leatherman, but it weighs a ton and has the file I was after. I did get a new buck tool that has a great knife and a sliding pair of pliers. My problem is most of the tools I use get a lot of abuse and rust out, like the gerber tool, etc. I have some nice offshore pliers, accurate, but I don't keep that with me when I am inshore fishing. I know for trout you only really need a pair of hemostats, and Joe was nice to send me a bunch of used surgical tools that I still use. Just wondering what is your favorite multi-tool? Mems.

The Leatherman "Wave" is their most popular multi-tool.

There is a good video clip explaining all the features.

i still like the older style leatherman. it is thin enough to fit in my pocket comfortably and it has all the tools i have ever needed. the newer ones have gotte bulky which makes them uncomfortable to carry

I've carried an original Leatherman for years (well since 1991), a word of caution, stainless doesn't mean rustless, I've got some "lack of proper care" spots on mine.

I use the Wave , and I love it .

Rust ?? I spray mine down with Fluidfilm every salt trip , and wipe the handle off - no rust so far ...

I have 3 different leathermans that I keep in my truck, my job trailer and my tool drawer at home. But they all took a back seat when I found the S.O.G.

It sounds like their "Super Tool" was the original Leatherman tool?

I guess dozens of companies make dozens of models of "multi-tools" now.

I have about 4 different ones.

They are an amazing thing.........I think some people collect them?

Don,.... The Leatherman Micra is my favorite. Wear it on a lanyard with the tool tucked into a pocket. I use the scissors extensivley. Inexpensive and durable in spite of the neglect. The panga captain we use says he uses the pair we gave him all year round, too.... :D

I hate to admit it but I do collect multi-tools (I still can't explain to my wife why). One you may want to look at that is ideal for fishing is the Pulse by Leatherman. It is an older model but it is not too big (a little larger than the original) it has a diamond edge file, a scissors, and the other standard blade and screwdrivers on it and the tools/blades lock. It can also be picked up pretty cheap. Swiss tools (made by Victorinox the swiss army knife company) are also very nice but they are very heavy and expensive. Of course there is a web site devoted to multi-tools that have reviews on about everyone on the market...it is http://www.multitool.org. Hope this helps out.

I've got the original leatherman in one of my kit bags. I like the Wave more. Still slim enough to carry but it is way more comfortable when you use the pliers. It has the file, and scissors. The wave is a better tool in my opinion.

I have the older SOG Powerplier and a Leatherman Juice S2 that are both excellent tools. But the Micra or a Swiss Army knife get much more actual carry and use during fishing trips.
