After a few years of swinging with a double hander without much luck it finally all came together on saturday. This fish slammed a Popsicle swung behind 10' of T-14 in about 5' of water.

The take was jolting and the fish fought hard considering the cold water.

I landed a smaller hatchery hen on sunday but didn't take any pix because I bonked her on the head and brought her home for the family.
It was great to have my hard work finally pay off!I don't know if I will ever nymph for steel again!

Thanks LT,
That is so cool.........I am very jealous and happy for you at the same time.
What a great shot you got there. I would blow it up and frame it.
To catch a real beautiful wild Steelhead swinging a fly on a Spey rod is great.

Thanks for the kind words Bill!Unfortunately it was not a wild fish.I'll find some wild ones this winter in a coastal river.

Beautiful fish. I got out last weekend for nada but I was just putzing around. I did have the pleasure of two nice bucks grazing by me on the river though along with a spike and a doe. A very nice 3X3 and another bigger buck that even had a drop tine...... something you don't usually equate to being in the middle of a city...

Nah, they were nice deer.... I was able to walk up pretty close w/o them showing much interest either.... Tried to get a pic but my phone just didn't do the job and of course my camera was sitting in the car. I did find one odd thing.... I noticed something tucked under a clump of large grassy stuff.... it was a greenhead...... well, not so much anymore since something had chewed his head off (yeah I know David, not what you want to hear) but it was very neatly tucked under there and he was in pristine condition with his wings all folded up and stuff..... kind of odd and I felt for the guy as the fishing was slow but he was obviously having a worse day than I.....

That is one of the healthiest looking hatchery Steelhead I have seen.
It looks like a real stud...........big fines and all.
I'm still jealous LT.

Hi David,
Just out of curiosity is this the buck that you saw that day? I had a great time photographing this big buck. He had an attitude!!!

Thats a beautiful fish! Getting it swung on a two hander is an added bonus! Lets hope the rain brings up more fish like that.

That's the buck, dark brownish body and all. My brother and I have been watching two large bucks there in years past.... I think the 3X3 was one but I'm not sure if this was the same big brother we've seen in the past as his rack is very different looking but it could be as it's been impressive in the past sans drop tine. Looking at the background that was about where I saw him too.
