Removal of Derelicts....

Interesting how some things are deemed to be imperative to the health of the Delta and others aren't.... :confused:

In the last session of the state legislature, a bill titled "Tidelands and Submerged Lands: Removal of Vessels" by Senator Wolk was enrolled. This bill provided that "....a hulk, derelict, wreck, or parts of a ship, vessel, or other water craft sunk, beached, grounded or floating and allowed to remain in unseaworthy or dilapidated condition....for a period longer than 30 days....is abandoned property...." The bill allowed for seizure and disposal of the property by a commission after providing notice and an opportunity for a hearing to the owner of record. Some portion of the $ proceeds from that activity would help fund the program. :)

Sounds good for the health of the Delta to take these leaky, deteriorating, dangerous hulks from the waterways, Huh :question: :question:

Somebody already enforced this to an extent because if you go down Fisherman's Cut, there are neon-colored "tow" tags on the abandoned boats, etc.... Looks kind of funny.

Enforcement is placing flourescent colored markers on derelicts.... :-s :-s What's next :?: :?: Harsh language :?: :?: :lol: :lol: Some these derelicts have been there so long they're marked on charts of the area(s). :-| Just check out Ed.... :nod: :lol: :lol: :lol:

The reason the bill was vetoed was for fiscal reasons. If enacted, the State would have been responsible with providing funding and resources to remove certain watercraft without also providing an adequate revenue source, thus further exacerbating the State budget deficit.

Some local agencies receive funding through a grant program to address abandoned watercraft, but must also provide a required match of local funds.

The worse news is that the economy is producing more and more abandoned watercraft each day..........
