How far from Fallon Nv. to Walker River Fishing

Hi Everyone,
I was thinking about trying to find some new water to fish over the next few weeks and I know the Walker River is somewhere I have wanted to try for a while now. I am not sure how to get to the Walker from where I live (Fallon, Nv) or how far it would be from the fishing areas? Would I be better driving further and fishing the California side or is there decent fishing on the Nevada side of the river. Thank you for any help.

If you don't receive some input from other, shortly, call the Reno Fly Shop for info about the Walker River. The East Walker is included in their report further down the Forum....

I'm not much help on fishing the Walker Digger, but I can tell you it's 145 miles from Fallon to Bridgeport and access to the East Walker. If you're wanting to fish the West Walker, it's 104 miles from Fallon To Topaz. I couldn't tell you where to access the river from either location, just that those two towns are near the Walkers. Rand McNally is a great resource...I keep their email address on my favorites & can easily plan trips to any destination. The number for the Reno Fly Shop is 775/825-3474. I live in Fernley and can be on the East Walker in about less that 2 hrs. If you're coming from Fallon go west on Hwy 50 to Silver Springs, then south through Yerington and Smith Valley. The Nevada side has good fishing with less people. The "Miracle Mile" is the section just downstream of the reservoir, and can get really crowed. There are turnouts all along the road on the Cali side, just find an empty one and start exploring. The Nevada side starts with private water then flows into Rosaschi Ranch then down to the "Elbow". To reach the Nevada side there is a dirt road called road 38 just before you reach California. There are a few turnouts where you can walk through the fence, and a good size parking lot at the bridge. Keep going a few more miles to reach the Elbow. There is no shortage on info for this stream out there. Kens Sporting Goods in Bridgeport is a good start.

its 94 miles north of bishop ca, did a 5 day trip in that area, but did fish the east walker, flows were at 19 so we did even give it a second look, i would suggest leaving those fish alone like we did. its just proper eticate. just my 2 cents on that. those fish have enough stress with flows that low trying to spawn as well as protect them selves from preditors let alone people fishing it everyday i bet 10 to 20 people pound the miracle mile every day, and double that on the weekends. there are a lot better places to fish in that area, here are just a few hot creek, upper owens, the owens george, and lower owens are in the area as well, oh ya rush creek too. and if u dont want to drive that far south, hit up the east carson. that place has been on fire, big bows and some decent size german and scottish browns.

Fallon is an hour to reno.
reno is about 2+ hours to Bridgeport
