Has anybody been to Davis lately. Any idea of the current water temp? I was there about 3 weeks ago with moderate success, mostly on the north end. However, never made over to the cow cove area. With recent cooler temps, i wonder if the fish are working the shallows for warmer water and more bug action?

I fished at Lake Davis on Friday from 11:30 to 3:30 (my first visit this year). I rowed around my favorite spot, known to me and a few friends as "Botany Bay" but that's just our little joke. This is where most of the other fishermen appeared to be. The water was really cold but I didn't take the temp. The weather was warm and sunny.

I fished midge pupas under an indicator around the weed beds in 4-7 feet of water. Landed four rainbows 12-14", missed the hookup on a bunch of others. Three of the fish I caught were covered with parasites. DISGUSTING. It's enough to make me stay away.

:-({|=

But I love this place. It used to be really great and I hope it will be again.

Haven't been out this week, but had great success last week.I was fishing Fairview and caught fish on snails, sheeps cr,and buggers.I was using an intermediate line but others using a floater and a long leader were hooking up as well.Fish were in water from 6" to 12'.Fishing under an indicator was not as productive as stripping.Water temps were from 48-53 but may have dropped due to lows in the teens or colder at night for the past few days.Have fun!

See you on the water!

went out about a week ago. started around 9 in the tube. not much action for an hour or so, and i hate the tube so i got out of the thing. went up to cow creek area, MANY fish in the shallows. it was like a saltwater flat and i spent the next few hours wading and walking the shore. got 10+ fish on a snail. only one fish with parasites, nothing huge but up to about 16". was really pretty out there, hoping to get out again sometime soon

Medfly, Great report! That's the way I like to play the game -
Sighting them in the flats! I'll be out a few times this week so
I'll chime back in.

Jon.

visited Don this weekend and we fished Sat/Sun - Cold mornings (low 30's) led to absolutely gorgeous days - mid 60's, light breezes. Water temps in the upper 40's. Did not get on the water until around 9 and explored a bit the first hour ending up at the Freeman end. There were fish busting everywhere - some were feeding on midges but most were not - I almost think they may have been trying to get rid of the parasites?

Floating lines and small dark damsel type patterns pretty fast strip and it was rare not to get a grab on a cast - Don's dog Hedi really got a workout as she really gets excited when you hook a fish or even when she just hears them splashing!

Most of the fish were the planters around 10"-11" but we hooked alot of them with occasional bigger fish around 15"-16"

It was alot of fun to find some relatively stupid, grabby fish!!! And weather could not have been more perfect!

the one bummer about the trip is I managed to crack my 30 year old Scott G 903 that I built from a blank on a boat cleat!! That brought tears to my eyes!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about that rod casualty, but it sounds like you guys had a fun day anyway. I especially love to see a good fishin' dog being so entertained, thanks for the report and the pictures!

Thanks for the fishing report and great photos. I hope to make it up there next weekend, but the weather looks iffy? I did make it out to Indian Creek reservoir on Sunday. Great weather, the water was a chilly 46 degrees and went up to 48. I saw quite a few fish at first and then they disappeared? None the less, they were not on the bite and I only landed three. The bank dunkers were catching a few on the North End and as usual, catch and kill.
