Went out with a couple of buddies on his bass boat. They used gear and bait, and I threw flies for most of the time (I had to switch to gear some of the time b/c of how they drifted the boat. It is actually hard sharing a boat with non-fly fisher b/c of boat positioning and needing room for the back cast). In any event, this was my first time fly fishing for stripers and it was a lot of fun. I was fortunate enough to hook up with two little stripers ranging from 12" to 15" using flies that Andy at the shop recommended. It was a blast.
Oh, I caught 2 using a fly and they caught zero using gear and bait, however, I have to say that one of my buddies hooked onto a monster that just ran and never looked back. It snapped a 20lb mono. Man, I would have loved to hook onto one of those big fish on a fly rod. It is just a matter of time.
