Got the call from Gene that Davis is going off the hook, so I decided to head down Friday after work to meet Gene who was kind enough to stay one more day so he could help me on the lake. Needless to say Gene has a good bottle of bourbon coming for waiting for me one more night, he had been camping all week and was ready to go home but he stayed another night for me, thanks much Gene.

On to the report, all I can say is WOW!!!!! I had been to Davis once before but only to have my butt handed to me by those fish. But different day and different story. When Gene told me we would be fishing in water from 6" to 2' I was a little skeptical, but once I saw the fish rising I knew it was game on. At first I missed about 7 or 8 hits and started to get worried, but a change of flies and tactics and I had my first Davis rainbow, a beauty pushing 20". The say continued on like that with fish here and fish there and fish everywhere. I had a couple 3 fish for 3 casts and even a 5 fish for 5 casts. The smallest fish was 17" which I am still having a hard time believing myself. the average fish was around 19" - 21". I had a fish over 25" but my net was not big enough and after hitting it in the nose 2 times the 3rd time popped the fly right out of his lip, that happened twice with a fish over 25". I know understand the love for this lake and I too have been bitten by that love. I can not wait for next spring to go again.

On with the pics.

Hey David, this little snake kept trying to chase me down, he was cute especially when it played possum. Anyone know what kind it is?

All in all one of the best days ever on the water.

That would be a Brown-Underwear Snake .

At least , that's what I would have if the lil' critter tried to climb into MY tube .

Nice fishes !!

Looks like a variety of garter snake.... these are in the delta, too:thumbsup:.

Had one try to get in the boat with us a couple winters ago

That last shot is way cool. Don't think I've ever seen one spotted like that.

Time to get a bigger net?

I hate you.

I too belong to the Scotty V Haters club. Good stuff there Scott, and way to go Gene!

Too funny Dave!

I'd hate Scott too if not for three reasons:

1: He gave me a heads up about the bite there
2: I too had a transformative day on the lake due to this intel
3: And he's rockin' a badass rod rack on his tube!

;^)

I was also with you that day .... I remember it well .

I think Paul offered the Reptile a lift , I suggested that it would NOT be a real great idea to give the Snake a ride to shore .

Come to think of it ....

Ed also found one that was hidden in a crack in the cement , waiting for me to go into the crapper @ Lagoon Valley . Ed caught that bugger and after playin' with it for a few minutes kindly offered to let me hold Mr. Reptile .

Anyone care to guess my response ?

Very interesting round spots on the Trout head -

Speaking of snakes and fishing, anyone else see the blog post about the guy who takes a juvi rattler on his kayak and proceeds to angle a hog bass with it?

Great photos, not for those PETAically inclined... :) But then again, is ANY fishing?

Welcome to my backyard, I'm so stoked you had a great time out there! Fishing from the bank to large trout in skinny water is my favorite game. The lake can fish even better with more water. The more water, the bigger the fertile shallows can get. I hope to be out there soon, I'm healing from some broken ribs - My quad decided to be put me in my place - DOH!

I would say that I hate you too, but you did invite me and I stupidly declined. And even though I knew you were going to do this well I am still bummed. However, I am only an hour or so away. That last fish is gorgeous. Thanks for the invite by the way, we will make it happen sooner or later.

Thanks for the compliments everyone, but will it be like that again? I got spoiled real bad that day.
