Beginning Fly Tying at Kiene’s

If you are ready to take the next step in your fly fishing career, then it is time to learn how to tie your own flies. Make no mistake, tying flies is both fun and easy, and this class is designed to introduce you to a whole new aspect of the sport of fly fishing. By the end of the 4 3-hour sessions, you will learn all the basic techniques needed to fill your fly boxes with your own creations. The class will include discussions of materials, tools, wet and dry patterns, and basic aquatic entomology. All tying materials will be supplied by the instructor, but attendees must supply their own tools (list below). The fee for the class is $75 for 4 3-hour sessions every Wednesday from 6:00-9:00pm at Kiene’s Fly Shop beginning October 21st and ending November 11th (class dates: 10/21, 10/28, 11/4 & 11/11). Required tools list:
- fly tying vise
- bobbin
- scissors
- half-hitch tool and/or whip finisher
- hair stacker
- hackle pliers
- 6/0 black thread
