I'm going to assume that everyone would recommend owning both, but does anyone have a preference, or a comment, regarding one over the other - especially if you could only pick up one for the moment?

Thanks in advance,

jcanger

I like Dec's book better. Not really sure why but it seems to bee less like a textbook. Just my $.02

Dec's book is really fantastic. Get Lani Waller's original 3m videos, they are really good.

Get Dec's book for sure... Something about his way of teaching this sport, and his sincere appreciation for it-

I haven't read either of those, but The Complete Steelheader by John Larison is excellent for someone new to the sport. It provides detailed discussions of the fish and their lifecycles and all of the various fly presentations and at the same time is very entertaining. My .02
