Try fishing early and late in the day on most Valley rivers now.
Lower Rogue and Lower Klamath should have schools of Half-pounders coming through now too.
In the warm weather of September getting out really early is a good thing for Half-pounders.
I like to swing wet flies down and across with floating line.
People use anything from a #8/10 classic wet Steelhead fly to a #10/12 nymph or wet fly for Half-pounders.
Just have a fly in the water out in front of you and take a few steps downstream ever cast you make to cover the water.
Let the fly wash in straight below you and don't be in any hurry to strip it in.
Sept/Oct/Nov is a great time to fish most "long" rivers for Half-pounders.
