I fished the Amercian River for an hour Saturday evening and was rewarded with this nice fish:

I caught it on an Orange Stimlulator. It's pretty cool to get a fish this size on a dry. I always fish an E/C Caddis about 18" below the Stimlator and use the Stimulator just so I can see the E/c Caddis. This time my "indicator" got eaten! This fish jumped twice and got into my backing and made multiple runs. What a blast!

What a gorgeous fish, and on a dry fly. That's really an awesome outing. Is that a bamboo rod? If so there must have been quite a bend.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I had two other strikes.
One was a little guy about ten inches and I missed the other
one. The rod is a 5 weight sage I bought for about $250 at
Kienes for my wife three years ago. I think it's graphite. It
become my dry fly rod and I love it!

Hey Craig,

How big you estimate that fish was length wise? The tail on that thing is awesome and the colors too. Gratz!

From the butt of my fly rod to the end of the cork is 10". My guess is the fish was about 22". It was the biggest half pounder I've caught and incredibly strong.

Yep, that's a beauty. I hooked 4 fish last year in that range.... I landed 2. The other 2 were probably a little bigger and both broke me off on the initial run after jumping or during a jump.

I swing flies, but not sure if it's a classic wet swing. I use an adult and emerger/pupa (unweighted) on a full floater and both flies will have a visible wake at times in moderate current or maybe just the dry will be floating/visible in less current but I would say the point fly is still within an inch or two of the surface. I always see a rise/take regardless of the fly they hit most times. I think I've finally developed an emerger/pupa that will move fish though which is what I think has been my main benefit. Only took me 5 years......
