Basically a juiced trout, it is incredible. No way this should be a record Rainbow, hybrid rainbow yes and it should have its own category for record keeping, as well as anything else genetically tweaked we keep records of. Would be a shame to put this thing in the record books ahead of a legitimate natural rainbow.

Thinking, if they can do that to a rainbow trout imagine tweaked King salmon, 200 pound Kings in our future?

Saw this on Yahoo, it is genetically altered. It can not reproduce, so it can spend the extra energy usually used up spawning to grow very large. At least that is what the article stated.

This is not uncommon at all. Triploid trout are stocked in many lakes. A good number of trophy trout lakes have geneticaly altered fish that cannot reproduce.

I agree with Dabalone. My views are not as harsh as some when it comes to these mutants, I would still love to catch a monster like that but there should absolutely be a 2nd category in the record books for these genetically altered fish. Just have two records and a lot of the debate would go away.

Just my .02 cents and it's probably worth every penny.

All debate would be unnecessary if we weren't interested in records.... 8-)

I agree with both statements from chico and Darian.

Well, then, from now on, I'm gonna
start keepin' records.

Artie, no records, Artie. What are
you gonna do with records? Pay taxes?

I agree with Darian but I also think that more importantly:
All debate would be unnecessary if we weren't interested in wild trout.

Thankfully there are many still who are.

Hmmm,.... Good point (about natural fish). Probably wouldn't have had this discussion without that consideration....

Fishing for Triploids has been around for a long time and fly fishers have been targeting them for many years now, here and elsewhere. Genetically altered and irradiated food is in inventory of grocery and farmers markets and probably in restaurants (truth be told). All the people who fish for these "animals" aren't harming anyone else or natural fish populations (they don't contribute to the gene pool).... So, I guess I don't understand the problem....

I guess this is comparable to using synthetic materials to tie flies rather than only natural or making fly rod blanks only from Bamboo. we all agree that synthetics are great. Would anyone here not be tempted to gently squeeze a perfect pair of silicone.... :?: :?: Oh,.... never mind.... :-\" :-\" :-\"

Personally I dislike silicone, I would much rather have the real thing even if they are smaller.

Did I say Silicone....  I meant Siliclone. :-\" :-\"

I've caught Triploids in Hyde Lake part of the Yamsi Ranch in Oregon...they were the toughest head shakers I think I've encountered.....2-5 lb range.

Marc

Yep, my bad. Love Casino also, but not as good as Goodfellas. Casino was a little long and drawn out, good movie, good quote.

Thanks for the correction.

Gotta say the same about boobies as I said about fish, I likem both fake and not, just for different reasons. Can't argue top notch natural of either (boobs or fish) blows away the fake but a great fake isn't so bad either.

Maybe there should be an asterisk by the record, like the Bonds homers, lol
