Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, September 5-13 2009

Chris and myself just returned from our annual Sept adventure on the Kenai. While we did pretty good on larger fish, overall fishing was much slower than in years past. Starting our trip during the Labor Day weekend was a big mistake, one I will never repeat, as every place was freaking crowded and it was difficult to find locations to fish that weren't being flogged and trampled to death. In addition, low and crystal clear water conditions also impacted the fishing as the water was the lowest I have seen over the past five years leading to very spooky fish. That being said, Chris got a personal best rainbow of about 14 pounds, and I didn't do too shabby on fish over 10 pounds either, so it would be difficult to call the fishing as poor. In addition, we scored quite nicely on steelhead on one of my favorite little streams, with 14 steelies hooked on the one day we fished it. I'll definitely be back next September!
