I am headed there tomorrow for the first time, any pointers? I will be in a float tube and plan to get there around 7 in the morning.

Thanks

The water in this reservoir (treated waste water from Lake Tahoe area) used to support a high volume of insect life. Not sure about now, tho.

There were some very good Rainbows in there many years ago. Haven't heard much lately. Get used to fishing in thick algae (thicker than Red Lake). :-| Also, the lake is in open country and is sometimes windy. The weather's supposed to be T-stormy over the weekend.

Not sure I'd keep any Trout caught there for the table.

Good luck. :D :D

The reservoir no longer receives treated gray water from South Lake Tahoe that stopped in1990. The reservoir receives water from a diversion from the west fork of the Carson River. The wastewater the lake received all those years has also resulted in a nutrient-rich fishery. However, too much of a good thing can also be a problem resulting in big algae blooms every summer. There is a new aerator that will help with the algae and fish kills

Got out to the lake about 7:15 or so, parked right next to the water and started to get ready when I saw activity splashing all around. So I grabbed my rod and caught a small rainbow on my first cast, I knew it was going to be a good day. When I left my house around 5 there was lightning and rain so I was a little concerned. The weather stayed clear til about 2, that is when I decided to get away from the lightning and thunder. As soon as I shut the trunk to go the rain started. Good thing I got in some good fishing first, once on the water it wasn't long til I was into my biggest brown, it measured around 20", my float tube skirt goes to 18" and the fish extended out on both sides. What a sweet fish, and what was best was I got it stripping, the tug was so sweet. Kicked around for a while and got some 10" rainbows here and there, but by the end of the day I added on 2 more rainbows, 1 at about 18" and the other just a hair smaller. Not bad for my first time on that water, 3 fish over 17". I think I will be going back.

Just the beginning of things to come

Nice fish Scotty! Probably fought better than any striper you have caught.

Way to go Scott! I was up in that area on Saturday but for brookies. The thunder cells stay to the East of me and the brookies were hitting everything thrown at them.
