First off this fish was caught last week halibut fishing with live bait. She was gut hooked and bleeding badly when boated. I have caught hundreds of stripers and kept maybe 20 in the last 15 years. She is now quitly resting in my tummy. Now, after reading the post about the big steelhead and its weight I want you guy's and gals to guesss the weight on this fish. The winner will be able to leave work 5 minutes early. No, I'm not giving the length. I can tell you this, the picture is decieving and that my friends is the point of this thread.

Assuming you are of 'normal' size .......

The Stripe looks short (back-half angling away in the photo) , with a VERY good girth - nothing in the photo to use for scale except the hand on the belly compaired to the dorsal fin .....

28-35 Lbs. . That's my guess .

(Bait ?? Boooooo .......)

16-18lbs depending on how many 'chovies are stuffed in there.

BTW, Nice stripe Gregg. One of my favorite fish to eat!

Hey Gregg not knowing your height I used the Boga Grip as a bases for my guesstimate. Also not knowing which model of Boga, I assumed it was the mid-sized model (approximately 10" in length). I would guess that fish is about 30-32 inches in length perhaps (considering the tail is arched away from us)? The girth looks pretty healthy. My best guess at this point is somewhere around 19 to 23 pounds. Photos like this one certainly don't tell the whole story. Won't be the first or last time I'm wrong about the size of a fish.

OK now you got me going Gregg. You must be taller than I thought! 30+ pounds would most likely make that fish at least 40" in length (26 inch girth). Now I'm thinking maybe it's 36 pounds????? The suspense is killing me! Give it up and save a brother from further torment wouldya???????

Typical fisherman's story! ;-) ;-)

I missed by a mile when guesstimating. Looking at it, it looks like it's about 4 boga lengths long.....factoring in the curve at the back of the fish, maybe longer? We're talking 40+ inches long. If you had a 30lb Boga how did you get a accurate weight?

My middle finger is 3 1/2 inches , finger in photo is 1 1/2 centemeter - it fits (using a tape measurer , of course ...) slightly under 12 times on the photo (not taking into account the curved plane the fish is bent to) .

3x12= 36 , + 6 inches = 42 inches , the Stripe HAS to be a bit longer .....

Look again at the girth - Very beefy critter there ....

I stay with 35 Lbs . Fine Striper in anyone's book !!

David Lee do'n the science. 46x42. I believe I have shed some light on guessing weight from photo's. Its not always easy to tell from images. Ok, lets move on to our next test. My girl friend and her sister would like you to guess there combined weight. Winner gets to double date with us next week in Bakersfield. Sorry the gal with the glasses is mine. Will consider trade depending on BAL on date night. Good luck fella's! BTW- (added bonus) Candy switch hits so girls are welcome!

Well, let's see . . . . Using that sturdy pickup truck as a guide, it appears these well-fed women probably have a length of appoximately 64" - 67" apiece. . . I'm guessing girth also in the 64" - 67" range, although I'll give the one on the right a tad more girth. The one on the right also appears to have been feeding more lately judging by the relative girths of their legs, so . . . I'm guessing conservatively approximately 752 lbs. ? :unibrow:
