Costs more than if made of solid gold. Seems kind of heavy for that price

Played with the reel today and it is light. Nice piece of work, but I have yet to decide how I would use it. I am thinking I would have to pawn it for the lawyer I would need once my wife found out about it.:D

Bill,

You only have one in stock?
I know the economy is in the tank and all, but only one?

I hope this reel is on loan from Hardy!

If I saw someone using that reel I think I would really laugh. $8000! What a joke! What is Hardy thinking? Even their new perfects are way too expensive. I love the old reels, but this is outrageous.

I'd be afraid to touch it - don't know what I'd do if I dropped it.
Years ago a buddy handed me a Wheatley fly box in a shop and when
I saw the price I nearly gagged, but this is in an entirely different
realm. Even Sevi Cimaroli would roll over in his grave.

When I was racing dirtbikes, to lighten them, guys would buy aftermarket titanium parts to lighten thier bikes up. They did not like to hear that it was cheaper to go on a diet and shed 10 lbs, then it was to shed 5 lbs. of weight with titanium. We call it Unobtainiom! To much for too little. I'll stick with any of the well made AMERICAN products.

Is it just me or is this forum getting back to its former glory?

Lots of fun posts lately! I just may become a regular again. :-)

Then again steelhead season is on the horizon which brings with it all "those" posts from all those "steelheaders"

Jay, I was just thinking the same thing.

I was afraid of jinxing it by mentioning it.

Jay you didn't always help the situation with "those steelheaders" but let's let bygones by bygones. I don't want to get thrown off the board for saying the wrong thing....it's not quite Steelhead season yet...

With regards to the reel.............. Is Grey's trying to go out of business....or wait! Titanium products became 80-95% less expensive to produce in the last two years so all these companies charging you your first born are really raping us now.

I just bought a Korean Marquis Salmon and I like it. I don't mind the accent to the click. Just somebody tell me how you extend a successful business model making a reel that costs at least $1500 to produce?

Hey Bill since the topic is Hardy how about a few Swifts or Marksmans they are great rods. I was gonna switch to a Hardy bamboo but the sewer and water main took up the bamboo rod fund.

I spoke with a guy from HARDY at Denver and if I remember correctly they sold around 40 of these reels around the world.
