Apple users..... I have my router and modem relocated to my off today and they installed new box. My internet connection use too have two boxes a router and a modem. But now I have a modem that my phone is connected to and using the same modem with my router plugged into the modem

I have been on line all day and been screaming at the comcast people for hours. I told the installer when he arrived it worked and I want it to work before he leaves. He did something and said it should down load and left.

Well since 1pm, I've been pissed at comcast for the crappy customer service they provide.
This is my fourth time I've had them here in 2 months

So I get a phone call from some gal asking about my service call I just had. I told her it was the Sh****. I can't pick up the wireless connection. Then she says I'll have a internet service person out there this afternoon. Well, it's dark and no one has showed up. So I called there number and for the 20th time I gave them the same information. I got someone whom I could not understand. My wife told me to knock off the yelling and calm down. "what's your phone number". The cork blow out. I told him that the green lights are flashing on the router. and the wireless light is not solid. He says call my ISP and tell them. That was the straw that broke the camels back. I came unglued.
Calmly, he tells me that they have this special going on some mantinance program where I could have a specialist work on the problem. Up went the blood pressure and I couldn't take it anymore. I'm calling tomorrow morning and asking for someone who can speak to me in English so I can understand

You guys who use Apples. How and where do i find the link for connecting my wireless connection. I know there's a page where you enter some info

Any help would be appreciated, before I go nuts... Ahhh, the good ole days paper and pencil

Jay,
Click on system preferences, probably in your tool bar. If not, on the hard drive. open the "network" link. You will have the option to select airport, ethernet, etc. Select one of the above, the computer will help you set up the internet and check for a connection or you can configure it manually.

The problem with using comcast and wireless is that they are constantly changing their IP address. What I had to do is hook the router up to my wife's PC and route the wireless through her computer. Apple is reat if you get it to work, but it can be a pain in the ass to get there.

In order to not deal with comcast, if you have the apple service contract, call them and they will set you straight and show you how to configure the IP address to suit your needs. Plus, my experience, they speak english.

I literally spent 2 hours on the phone with cisco the other day to set up the router. Until the guy over seas say he can not help anymore.

I called apple and they had me rolling in about 3 minutes, we could have routed it through my computer, but they asked if there was a PC and if so do it through that computer as it would be very quick.

good luck

I will make the drive to your house and configure it for you if you take me and Loganmike to Baja to catch roosters on the fly!

Hi Jay,.... I've been having similar issues with Comcast service and products for over a year now. I'd like to say that the problems I've experienced with connectivity had something to do with the fact that I'm running a MacBookPro notebook but I had the same problems when I was using a Toshiba notebook running Windows. Their products are supposed to be plug 'n play but that's not always correct and their service is abominable.

At any rate, Apple has an application called Airport that is their wireless program. However, I believe it requires an external device to complete the process. Not sure how much this device costs.

If you're considering going wireless, there might be a security issue involved for sales/payment transactions. Might there be a possibility that transactions could intercepted over the airways by another computer within a specified radius of yours?? I've seen an example of this by a neighbor who had someone in the neighborhood use the logon for her ISP after capturing it.... Anyway, another something to check out.

Yep, the people at Apple are great and I can understand them. I don't have a PC
Here's the funny thing, my desktop iMac is working but not my laptop. Before all the changes, I had a modem and a router for my wireless connection. But today, after hooking everything up, the guy told me that I didn't need the modem with the router because the one that's hooked up to the phone will work and you'll save $5.00 a month. Now I'm beginning to wonder.

I'm going to call Apple in the morning and see if they can figure this mess out. I'm sure it has something to do with connecting some numbers

Loganmike, I do have an apple service contract. I've gotten my moneys worth from it

Thanks,

Jay

Finally got things back on line. I called the Apple people this morning and they detected it was in the Netgear router. I was coming up with 2 different numbers. So I had to call comcast back and finally got someone who new what they were doing. We did this, we did that, we shut it down, we turned it on and finally he looked up the Netgear information and we were missing the mac ?????. so we hit keys, switched cables, logged into this and then another site. Turned airport off, on, a few times and then the wireless started working.

I'm going to take the advise from the Apple tech. Today, I'm going to buy an Apple router, plus the one I have from Comcast - I'm renting

Thanks for all the help

Jay

Glad you got it figured out...... yeah, sounds like they needed to set up the correct MAC address for the router. I bet the technician used the one for the computer which is why your desktop probably worked but your notebook didn't??? Yeah, go Comcast...... I worked for a Comcast contractor..... so I know how you feel since I interacted with Comcast employees daily and it sure was entertaining to a degree but gets old quick......
