The newly "re-constituted" legislative package of water Bills to "fix" California's water problems are in the in the process of being pushed through the legislature during the last weeks of this session.

CSPA believes that the issues are far too important to allow something this critical to our fisheries and their restoration, to have the normal deliberative legislative process short circuited for political expediency. While there may be a few "good things" in the Bill package but they are far out-weighed by the bad that this package brings. The worst being that they will turn Public Trust Doctrine on its ear by making the restoration of the environment and our fisheries "co-equal" goals with "water reliability". This has the nasty effect of making water exports to raise cotton and orchard crops in the southern San Joaquin Valley desert equal to restoring our fisheries and the environment and does away with the Public Trust Doctrine as the law of the land. Bad deal all the way 'round!

As a result CSPA has initiated a petition and letter writing drive to try and stop this madness. Please go to our website here: http://www.calsport.org/8-22-09.htm

Click on the links to sign on to the petition. Cut and paste the (or write your own) letter and follow the links to your legislative members address, then mail them the letters. Also, please forward the info to 10 of your fishin' friends and maybe we can stop this now and make them come back next year and let the people that matter be involved in the process, instead of a Governor and special interests only!

The fish gods will smile on you if you do this!
