View Full Version : Time for a new swap?

Xnjb707X

Well I think it's about time for a new fly swap. I've done a couple of these now and I'm hooked! I was thinking about starting one up. The fall trout season is in the near future so I was thinking I'll host a swap, I'll keep it simple since it will be my first time hosting a swap, but maybe favorite fall nymphs? Sounds good to me. If anyone is down for a fall nymph swap just hit me back. Lets try to get atleast 10-15 tyers. If anyone is interested just respond back with your fly and I'll set a due date etc.

Well, I'm always game if everyone else is. I'll tie up a bunch of black AP Nymphs. I'm hoping we allow at least 30 days for this swap since I'm also already in a swap on another board.

Does it have to be a classic nymph? I'd love to tie up a dozen soft hackles for a swap. I've been doing really well with them since starting to use them hard.

Shig, every foothill stream I've fished has a good or great population of Fall Caddis. They're big, real big.

The big trout will be snarfing them up for a couple of months.

You fish them dead drifted right on the bottom. High sticking is my preferred method but bobbers will work too.

Maybe you just have to see it to believe it.

I can help with that.

I would love the opportunity to hone my fly tying. I was thinking about an October Caddis imitation. I have decided on the #10 orange bodied Serendipity. It should work. Here are the details on how to present the fly. (http://www.westfly.com/feature-article/9909/feature_76.php)

Ok, I've read through this whole thread again and it appears this swap has morphed into a "fall trout subsurface fly" swap with mayfly nymphs, caddis larvae, wetflies, stoneflies, and streamers allowed? I have absolutely no problem with that whatsoever, just wanted to be clear, because if this is the case, I would like to change my planned tie from black A.P. Nymphs to Hare's Ear Soft Hackles. :D

Hurry up guys, fall's here. Did very well with orange Stimi's and Fall Caddis Emergers up on the Silver Fork weekend before last. I'd bet that between Phil and myself we racked up over 100, fishing only the afternoon and evening. Did it right too, fished til almost dark, then as darkness fell we were still trying to find the best way back up the hill. Saw Grimners Shrine. Very cool.

Enjoyed a cold beer while watching darkness descend on the mountains, and of course, kicking ourselves for not camping. Can't think of anyplace more pleasant than the Sierra's on a warm evening.

Saw some adult Fall Caddis laying eggs, it's starting now. Hurry.

BOWB916 posted on another thread that he'd been fishing too much recently but seemed like he's still in.

Let's have a deadline.

I say instead of getting back our extra ties, if nothing else, we should get extra random other ties. This would make the waiting at least a bit more exciting? Like opening up a box of Cracker Jacks (back in the day when there were REAL toys in the box and not some crap sticker!).

Are they that bad? Just kidding! :D

I say you either keep them as a bonus for being the swapmeister . . . or follow SHig's suggestion to arbitrarily sprinkle them into the boxes you send out . . . or donate them to a worthy cause of your choosing (e.g., someone you know who's just getting started in fly fishing or a local school fishing club).
