Email report from top Oregon Steelhead guide:

Hi Bill
Steelheading on the Deschutes river is finally getting started .
Last week we had very warm weather and high water temps which made fishing tough
This week the weather has cooled and the fish are more aggressive
There are Steelhead now from Shears Falls to the Mouth in good numbers
I fished four days last week with beginner steelheaders and we hooked 8 but only landed 2
Hopefully it will stay cool the rest of August

In the last four days over 105,000 fish have gone thru the fish ladder at Bonneville dam.
We are talking record counts. The Deschutes,John Day,and the clearwater and Ronde should be aswesome this year.

You can watch the fish cam at bonneville here. http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/b/fishcam.asp

This could be a record Steelhead year in the Northwest?

Get those "honey dos" out of the way and tie some flies.
