I am fishing Rock Creek Lake with my father this Monday thru Wednesday. I am not the biggest fan of private waters, however my dad is getting a little older and enjoys the comforts of the cabin. We will have the entire lake to ourselves for three days and I hear they are all wild fish. I have also heard some tales of 30" fish being caught in there. However "they" say a lot of things.
Anyways, I am jsut wondering if anyone has fished there, and if they are willing to give me some info. Flies, techniques that have worked would be great.
I will post a report when I get back, hopefully with too many pics.
Thanks
John

Hi John, I have fished it several times and there are big fish to catch. Our biggest is around 12 pounds (rainbow). Many fish in the 3-6 pound range. I would use and take a floating line for griffins gnats and house flies and other misc. drys. I would also use primarily a ghost tip, full I line or type 3 for streamers and prince nymphs.
Work the shore line especially the North end near the brush and the inflow on the East side. If not too hot you will be able to catch fish most of the day. You will enjoy the eagles, osprey and honkers around the lake. Great place to fish.
Just one mild word of caution...do not leave your float tubes or pontoon boats down at the lake at night. There has been bears around in the past and the fish smell on the boats is a magnet. Contact me via pm or post here if want more info. Have a great trip....it is very fun and private.

If this is the same place off of 395, according to their website they mention nothing about being private. And it is stock with big fish.

Is this the same place?

Hint:
If there is a moon, take a 7 wt. rod, 10 lb. test, and a mouse pattern.....
......hang on!

I am way ahead of you on the night time fishing. Fully stocked with a 9'6" 6wt, a bunch of different mouse patterns, and the moon should be somewhat out. I was really hoping for a full moon, but it is right now, but it should be enough light.
