Reel for DH6126

I am looking for a new reel for my Echo DH 6126 and have narrowed the choices down to a Lamson velocity 3.5 or an Orvis Battenkill Big Game IV. Is there any opinions about the relative merits of these reels? Will they hold a Compact Scandi or Skagit (420 and 450gr), a ridge running line and 150 yards 30# backing? These reels are of about the right weight to balance the rod well.

Hi Bob,

Both of those reels will work just fine. Capacity is fairly similar and I would say your choice is going to be based on personal preference. Both have sturdy drags and are close in overall weight. Getting 150 yds of 30 lb backing is pushing it though, may be closer to 130 or if you used 20 lb about 175 without filling the spool right up to the frame.
