went up to fuller lake today, and had a great time as always. there was a large group of flyfishermen there and its always a pleasure to meet new people. they werent catchin almost anything and i was catchin one on every cast, so i gave them all a fly that was shown the me by the notorious Scott V!

after i gave them those flies everyone started to catch fish, it was alot of fun, every man cheering the other on as a feisty little brown was brought to hand amid splashing and jumping.

the local osprey was having a field day too, he got a couple of fish, i loved watching them do those amazingly accurate dives on top of the little browns.

all in all got about 40 to hand and it was an amazing evening. the scenery was gorgeous as always and i fully enjoyed and appreciated the experience!!

Great place to fish and I knew you would go back. Good job at helping others out and offering up some flies. Helping others keeps that karma flowing in the right direction.

I Went on a little trip to Fuller Lake yesterday, fishing started a little slow only had 8 by noon, Browns, after lunch, 5 more mostly Rainbows. Most of our group were in double digits, and nobody really using the same fly. Care to share what fly you suggested to the other group?

Funny, fly choice has a LOT to do with confidence. My go-to at Fuller has always been a brown/copper leech. Others SWEAR by olive leeches or buggers. For some reason, the "Fuller Lake Special" has also been the Sheep Creek for some reason.

I think depth and speed is more important than pattern. I've been having a lot of luck recently playing around with soft hackle wets.

Good luck!

olive wiggle tail bugger, stripped FAST!!!

Fast has been working, but sometimes it doesn't. Also, again, depth is key as well. Don't go with only olive wiggle tails on I-line and fast stripping and plan to slay 'em. Change things up. Use floating line and slow strips to type III and fast.

Kick trolling works well for figuring out where and how the fish are taking as there's never much slack in your line. Just kick and pull/release in a controlled manner while doing so. When stripping, it's nearly impossible to detect all strikes and just as hard to send the hook home since the line will have momentum and bunch up between strips. The fast strip works well (especially when they are hitting) since you're most likely to set the hook on a strip, and the pause and bunching is minimized. With slow and long pause stripping, it's harder to be in direct contact with the fly at all times and you'll miss half the hits.

little striper,
thanks for giving me a few of your magic woolley bugger flies. They were effective flies with a fast strip. I'll say hi to George at Leland for you. Hope to see you again.
