Went to Mather last night with jburge looking for some monster bass and bluegills. Plenty of fish just none of any size. I started with a size 4 clouser and caught what I believe is the smallest crappie I have ever seen and a couple small bass. As the sun lowered in the sky switched over to my Orange Crush and proceeded to a calm section of the lake and caught small bass after small bass. These little fish thought they were monsters by the way the attacked the fly. As you can see in the picture they sure are eating alot trying to get bigger. One of these days we will find the bigger fish. Caught no gills, John got a gill at the end of the night about 4 inches long. All in all a fun night on the water with plenty of small action. Next time I will use my 3 weight.

Is this a crappie?

Hey Scott, I believe that was a crappie. I have been told by a couple of friends that there were a lot of crappie biting @ Mather. Thanks for confirming that for me :D I can't seem to get the Sierra mountain smell out of my mind, so I haven't visited Mather in a bit. Also, I had to hit up Sacramento Bar & Arden Ponds to see what is better. So far, I have to rate Mather better than the other two, but I have seen Big Ass Carp at Sacto Bar Pond. I am trying to find ways to get that bad boy on my flies ;)
