Veteran Dunsmuir fly fishing guide Bill Carnazzo just reported to me that the river is fishing very well.
You can nymph fish all morning then take a break in the afternoon and go out at around 6pm and fish dries till dark (9pm).
Golden Stones are fly around laying eggs in the PM along with nice #12/14 light colored caddis.
He said the Golden Stones are actually orange so a #8/10 orange Stimulator (on 3x-4x tippet) is good but be sure to cut most of the hackles off on the bottom of the fly so it sits deeper in the surface.
For the caddis have some light colored adult caddis pattern in #12-14 on 4x -5x tippet. He said a lime #12/14 Stimulator dry was workng well. He said to cut the hackles off the bottom of them to so the fly sits low in the water.
Fish are through town and above town now.
PS: Bill says there is no one up there fishing????????????
Local guide Fred Gordon told me the same thing a week ago??????
Be sure to check with the guys at the Ted Fay Fly Shop before you go as things can change week to week.
