Went up to Hope Valley over the weekend to check out some camping spots for future trips and while walking the creek saw this little guy cruising around. He was kind enough to let me take some up close pictures. I do not think he was doing well since all the other fish would not let me get within 8 or so feet before swimming off.

Love the shot with the reflection in the surface film. I think you're right about his health though.

I was wondering how much snow is still up there. Looks like another month before I can fish my walk in brookie spot.

Thanks Scott

Fochetti, Hope Valley is just south of Tahoe at the intersection of hwys 88 and 89. It's huge.

Ed if you are talking about where you took me, then yes it is probably full of snow and worse than last year. But I'll be heading to the beaver ponds this weekend to see if that area is fishable.

Great pics of that spot Scott. I'm always there well after the snow melts, looks like it would be awesome...cold, but awesome....to be camping there now. The stream is flowing really nicely, did you have your rod? :-s
If not, let this be a lesson. A recon trip can turn bad when you find good water and can't do anything about it.#-o I learned the hard way:crybaby:

I always have a rod with me, but the day was getting long and I was real tired and still had the drive home. Where you had camped last time is now out of bounds for motored vehicles. You can drive the little trail next to it, but where you actually parked was off limits. There was even a ranger informing a person that drove to that spot in their van that they had to move.

I figured you know better than to go without, but.....

Too bad about that spot, it's only flaw is it needs just a bit more shade. Last year was sweet during the Perseid's, walk 100ft from the trailer and your in open meadow, with a fantastic view of the night sky.

As much as I love bass and gills I am a creek lover first and foremost, there is nothing that compares to walking a creek with no other person in sight since I am usually a mile or so into the forest. And yes as a matter of fact I did check out Red Lake and will more than likely be fishing it tomorrow. Let me know if you want to join me. They also planted again this week so I might have to deal with a bunch of small DFG planters to get to the bigger fish in the lake.
