Shad on dry flys ?

This is my first season fishing for Shad and stripers and wanted to know if you can catch them with dry fly's if so what kind of dry fly's.

Shad will rise to a skating caddis pattern (a stimulator pattern will also work) but I have only been able to get them to do so just before dark. I have never had a striper rise to a dry fly (per se) other then throwing a top water popper and striping it in. It is really two different types of fishing.....Anne
